TOP 10 TIPS FOR ROAD TRIPS WITH KIDS

I am the youngest kid in my family of 6 and that was not a good result for any car trip.  I didn’t get to sit in the back with my brothers or my sister, I sat between mum and dad in the front.  I could not look back, I could not touch anything, I could not move or I would bump the driver, I could not see out any window, I could not see out the windscreen, I could not do anything.  I used to hear my brothers and sister playing games in the back and all I could do was look straight ahead at the air conditioning controls (I can still see them clearly in my mind).  Don’t let your kids have road trips like I experienced as a kid.  Use the below tips for a happy road trip…

Here are the Top 10 Tips for Road Trips with Kids

1.  Before you leave, pack minimum mess food, water and make the kids go to the toilet.

2.  Plan stops for your trip every 2-3 hours.

3.  Talk to your kids about anything and prevent the use of electronics in your car for as long as possible (DVD, Nintendo etc.) This will help the trip seem shorter than it really is.

4.  Sticker books or books in general are always a winner for car trips.

5.  Use kids music, nursery rhymes or an audio book to increase the fun factor.

6.  Get your kids to play spotto, eye-spy, car cricket any car game that gets them looking out the window.

7.   Travel at your kids sleep time, or tell them to sleep so the trip goes faster (ensure you take a pillow).

8.  Ensure your kids are travelling in comfortable clothes.

9.  Teach your kids about numbers with time, speed limit, or use a countdown timer at the start of your trip to stop that inevitable question of “are we there yet”?  Just point to the countdown timer…

10.  Pack a First Aid Kit with a toilet roll for the car, comes in handy more than you would expect.
